I have a 20 gal and i plan on breeding feeders for my O and JD. Im not looking to have feeders 24/7 but to have a treat once a month or something would be nice. Which would you choose between and what are your experienecs. Examples of thngs that worked for you or friends, etc. This is a single tank project. Thanks in advance. (ive been doing the convict thing for a while but theyre so fast. I also realised i had one that survived for a couple months with the parents and has been eating all the next generations -_- So i fed her o my O.. who caugh her like 2 hours later lol)

swordtails or platies,use 1 M/2 or 3 F.with a 20 gal,i would try 2 M/6 F with many hiding places for the fry

wait why not guppies? And when i said that cons are fast i meant that its hard for fish to catch them and eat em.

ok so now its between mollies, platies n guppies. What ratio/amount of fish can i put in my 20 gal for each type? It wont be suuuuper heavily planted but i do have a plastic horn-wort plant and a couple more assorted fake and real plants. Anyone know the gestation period of these 3 fish?

Mollies, platties, and guppies can be kept as pairs, trios (1 male,2 females), or most any combination. Just don't keep one female with multiple males. Without plants for cover, most fry will be eaten. Floating plants are the best for fry to hide in. Gestation period for most of these fish is approximately 28 days.

I have some good floating plants and one like this on the back side of the tank: http://c3.wag.com/images/products/p/hag/hag-939_1.jpg
plus others in the tank. In terms of getting latge number fast with a dcent survival rate of the fry, how many guppies should i start with? (size of guppies is good for my fish to eat as platies are larger). How long do you think it will be before theres enough fish for me to start using them as feeders?

I just started a breeder tank for my bigger cichlids and it has 1 male and female krib and 1 male and two female swordtails in a 20 long

I have had the fry of all three species of these livebearers and I would definatley say that platies are the most hardy in terms of survival and speed of births [SOB's].
