Simple really. Place the rocks into a separate tank and add in some already thriving live rock from another tank. Supplement with minerals and elements (Calcium, Strontium & Molybdenum, Supp. mixes like Kent Coral Accel or Kent Coral Vite, and Kent Essential Elements). You can also do a 50/50 - by that I mean move most of your "dead" rock into its own tank, move some of your thriving live rock into that tank, and then take the rest of your "dead" rock and place it back into the main tank that the thriving rock came out of. Just swap them around. It wont happen over night, but the better your water, and the more exposure they have to organisms, crusting algae, etc.. the faster you will see improvement.

all's ben said already...

yup.

could i just add any dead porous rock to my main tank wit live and let it seed in there? do u really need the calcium and stuff for it to seed the rock?

just add the dead to your main tank and it will seed fine. you don't need to add anything to get it going besides a piece of live rock. if the rock is dead and dry all the way through then it will take up to 1 year to seed regardless of how much Live rock you have around it.

If you keep your params good though it will purple up faster than it would other wise. If you are seeding base rock I would get some of the best live rock avail as a source for algae and critters.

where can u buy base rock, does it just look like lava rock but different colour and how much is it per pound?
