Hi group!

So I have 3 LMB about 3-4" in size. Still babies. 2 of them have gained weight and look really well. The other one is still skinny and small. Also out of the larger 2 one of them is the alpha fish and bullies the other 2. This alpha bullies the smallest one really bad.

2 Questions

1) are female bass smaller?
2) will increased hidding spaces help this little guy?

When in comes to LMB the females are typically much larger than the males. And I would imagine adding more cover would help the smaller one stay out of trouble. My biggest concern would be at feeding time... if the larger of the 3 is eating all of the feeders then that one is just going to continue to grow and dominate the others.

^^ I agree. Females are definitely larger than males. Most of the record bass have been females full of eggs. If you can, take out the little guy put him in his own tank and pump him up. Warm water and all the feeders he can eat = big fat bass. Someone may know better but that's what I'd do.

Yes the females are larger but the males are the more aggressive ones.

this is my conflict,,,,, While yes this fish is bar far the smallest, it is by far NOT aggressive. HMMM are there other ways to tell the sex??

there still young it will come out of its shell,

I had 4 LMB as fingerlings and one was outgrowing the other 3 by double at least. What I would suggest is go to your local hardware store and get a thin piece of plexi-glass or something and cut it to the width of your tank...when you feed try to isolate him/her and then feed them separately.

Had to seperate them so I put the smal one in my feeder tank due to this one is about the same size as the feeders. LOL. Time to fatten this one up.
