To do it right 600 gal just for one fish ..
were talking about a fish that can grow to 20 inche's or better & weight 25lb or more..
IMO LMB's are'nt a suitable fish for the aquarium ..;)

Usually they don't get as big as they do in the wild because of OUR OWN fault - meaning, we don't give them an appropriate tank size :) Fish are genetically predisposed to grow to a certain size. It is the environmental factor that limits this growth - such as poor diet, poor water, small tanks, etc...
Even with all of this considered, quite a lot of the "monsters" still get way out of hand, size-wise.
Give your LMB PLENTY of room, and as for a bottom dweller, how about a bullhead cat or two, to keep with the native scheme of things.

Not true. The only way that would happen is if you weren't taking proper care of your fish. If you're doing it right there is no reason to assume it would not grow just as large as it would in the wild.

Even then, a lot of people think that wild ones are about big as they get. I seen captive fish that are larger than their wild counterparts.

Yup, that can happen. Typically captive fish live longer, that means they grow larger as well. Plus they don't have to use up as much energy in their quest for food and they don't have to undergo a cooling period (like winter) where growth would normally slow down.

Lets make something clear. There are many who have peacock bass who do not have a 600 gal. tank. Also, to my knowledge, nobody has ever grown even a 10lb. bass in captivity, let alone a 20lb. fish. If I am wrong please correct me, but in looking though this site the largest fish I have found kept is about 18" long, and even then there is no pic.

Even in the wild, even with florida strain largemouth, the average size attained is less than 10lb., maybe less than 8lb. Male bass only get to 8lb. MAX. It is VERY RARE that a female florida strain bass gets to 10 lb. in the wild.

Truth be told, a keeper growing a largemouth bass will end up spending far more $$$ on food for the fish than the large tank needed. I have read it takes 10lbs. of forage for 1lb. of growth-florida strain. If I am wrong then correct me.

I figure a good tank is about 8'x4'x4'. Really big. Would a peacock bas need less?

jaxx understands what i am saying.. and anywhere that i fish around here including where i got mine 2 years ago i have never herd of a bass being pulled out more then 4lbs.. but you can catch easily 50+ under 3-4inches in spring time. realisticaly what size tank would i need.
