Here&There
My clown loaches have been nudging and [half-heartedly] fighting my oscar. They rub the sides of their faces against the side of the O. I know the CLs have those spikes under their eyes/on their cheeks; can they use them offensively? Can they shank other fish with them? Was I witnessing an aquatic jailhouse uprising? Or are the cheek spikes only for defense. It def seemed like the CLs were instigating contact, not the O. No obvious wounds on the O, but he is hiding more than usual (but is still pretty outgoing). What gives?

Clown loaches are just annoying to other fish in general. They won't harm the oscar at all in my opinion. Mine are always "looking for trouble" in their tank.

I'm pretty sure the sub-occular spikes are for defense only.

My Clowns do the same thing to my fish as well. I think it is harmless loach type antics that happen when group get overly excited.

I only have two and have never seen them do this with this level o ***gression before. No real sign they are doing any damage tho.

They definitely have spines! Ever try netting a large number of clown loaches?

They are probably just "clowning" around, they can be obnoxious, as someone else pointed out.

You're correct. They use it only as defense mechanism. No damage is done, not unless the fish has a death wish to swallow them with the spines raised.;)
