Hey MFK's! Just want to know if you people have the same problem as I do with my clowns as i hear them click click chewing on the silicone inside the tank. I dotn know why they do that cause there is always a piece of cucumber in the middle of the tank if they are hungry.

SHould I be worried that this will eventually lead to a leak? if the CL's constantly chew at one spot???

there is this one corner that they always go for and I see them bite and try to tear out something. So I'm pretty sure its silicon that they are click click chewing on. They do have sharp teeth I'm jsut wondering if its enough for me to worry about?

Have you had this prob?

yep i've got the same probelm...i'am pretty sure that that the bit's of silicone is just the excess silicone as it's the sillicone between the joints of glass that do the sealing...i'am more worried about them eating the actual silicone..is that harmfull? dammm i feed my clowns about 3-4 times a day and they are still hungry!

Clown loaches, do not have teeth in any shape or form. They have sub occular spines, two under each eye, which are incapable of fine control. They are not eating your silicone, trust me. They click when they eat/are happy. It's part of their social structure.

Do you notice the clicking at certain times? My shoal (roughly 50 ish) will do this during their morniing dance, then during breakfast feeding and at nighttime's dance and feeding. If they THINK they are going to get food at lunch during my break, then they get very happy and noisey too. The food tends to drift to the front due to the current, and they will pile along the front and if its quiet in the house, I hear many clicks. The thought of them eating the silicone made my go check, but nothing has been chewed away. The bigger the shoal, the louder the sound. The first time I heard it, I thought I had a leak. It was on of my larger ones, dead center in the front, and all i heard was a steady "click click click" I felt dumb afterward lol.

I've heard of plecos eating silicone and eventually causing leaks.

Plecos are catfish, completely different, plus have rasping capabilities for getting the toughest algae possible off rocks.

Still unlikely it would go for silicone, have you tried some?

Wow 50 Clowns?! My gosh... how big is your tank? Just loaches??? any pictures? jsut picked up a few clowns lately so the count for my 180g is 12 Clowns now =) I would love to own a bigger tank and get more clwons going.
