Well, I started with two and now I'm down to one :irked:. I'm thinking he became food for one of my other fish. Do you think if I would have purchased more than two this could have been prevented. Tank mates include 5" bgk, 5" CK, 4" Tiger oscar, 4" senegal bichir. Any thoughts on who the stalker might be. I've read that loaches go fine with oscars. I'd consider buying 3-4 more but at 8.99 for a 1-2" fish it can be a costly meal for the other fish.

Loaches are fine with any of those fish provided they can't be eaten. I do recommend a group of 5 or more.

With such a big difference in size, why not get 3-4 inch specimens?

I would suggest something other than loaches. Your bichir will make short work of anything he can get his mouth around. My ornate bichir ate all of the fish in the tank small enough to fit in his mouth. He ate a 1.5" SAE when he was only 4".

hmmm...that stinks. I really wish bottom dwellers could coincide better. Seems like you have to choose between loaches, catfish, plecos, or bichirs...haha. I guess I'll stick with the bichirs.
