Hey guys, i had 2 clown loaches when i first got my tank and wit my inexperience they both died. i decided to get 2 clown loaches yesterday for my 180g tank cuz theyre cool lookin.theyre about 10cm. i was just wondering wat i should feed them. i usually feed my catfish, plecos, angel fish and rainbowfish shrimps, sinking pellets and floating pellets. is that enough for the loaches? also the guy at my lfs said to feed them blood worms. i tried yesterday and it wasnt too easy. any technics? i bought them frozen and after i melt it, it gets all messy. and when i put it in my tank my other fish start eating it!

thanx... dont wanna screw up twice!:headbang2

Worms worms worms!

My clowns dig through the gravel all day long but the only time i actually see them eat is with frozen blood worms.

Get one of those conical worm feeder baskets with the suction cup. Take the worm feeder, turn it upside down (so the cone is facing up like a road cone), and suction cup it to the inside glass about 3" off the bottom. Take a frozen blood worm cube and float it up into the cone. As the worms defrost it will sink the bottom under the cone and minimize the other fish eating it.

Check out my blog, lots of food options.

Clown loaches will pretty much eat anything that hits the bottom of the tank. As they settle into the tank, they may even try to swim upside down to get food off the surface.

If the loaches aren't accepting the food at first, keep trying it, they will eventually accept it. Sometimes it takes multiple feedings for them tp accept the food. The first time I fed my loaches Squash, they hardly touched it. Now when I drop a piece in, they are all on it like white on rice.

A Turkey baster works as a good delivery system for frozen foods.

Add more clowns please. Two is not enough.

I agree, they just don't do well in small groups. They will be skittish, they will harass your other fish and may have a hard time getting food.

I've had clown loaches and dojos that come up to the top to eat pellets, not sure if that is normal for them though.

so how many CL r enough? i like them n all but i dont want too many... oh and i have 1 gold dojo loach too

Minimum: 5. Your tank is 180g. Should be enough for a dozen.
