I bought a school of skunk loaches a while ago, and one of them doesn’t look like the typical skunk loach:

The fins are much redder and it only has the tail stripe, not the dorsal one. Is it just a color variant or is this a different species?

I am not sure but Y. lecontei Is supposed to have redder fins when it is young then as it ages it seems to lose them and the spot near the tail fades. Your tail spot looks more defined than what I have seen, but maybe that is it.

kno4te kno4te Might be right. Eos fins seem to be more red than lecontei. In your pic it is hard for me to see the red, but that is sometimes hard to catch in a pic.

Yeah, eos seems like a close match.
The fins aren’t too red, just more so than the skunk’s.
Thanks for the replies!

Liveaquaria actually. Maybe they supply thatfishplace though.
As they come out more I’ve confirmed 1 skunk and 3 eos. Still waiting to confirm 6 total.

or maybe same supplier. ive yet to see any with the full skunk stripe more than temporarily. some even seem to have faint tiger stripes

I’ve noticed the tiger stripe on the eos as well.
