My understanding is that juveniles look like this and don't start to turn gold and have dark lines and "marble" on fins until bigger

That's what I'm thinking. But I've seen imperial loaches considerably smaller than this one with "adult" colors and pattern that's why I'm scratching my head. Shape is def Leptobotia sp, so who knows.

Thanks man. I need to free up some tank space to give me cool water loaches a more relaxed environment to live in. Then I can set my sights on my dream species: Triplophysa siluroides
