Let me start this off by saying "I HATE DECOR MADE OUT OF RESIN".

There we go.

So I come home from work today and I notice that I can't find either of the two clown loaches that I bought the other day in my smaller tank. Immediately, I know they're in my resin driftwood. So I get one out pretty easily and quickly. The other one just isn't coming out. So I had to take turns with dipping it in the water, draining it, and hammering small pieces (very carefully) off. FInally after the 5th cycle like that the little guy falls out. At first it wasn't moving, then I poked it. Yes! It started flopping around and I grabbed the net I had sitting next to the whole ordeal and put it back in the tank.

Bad part of this whole thing is:
1) didn't learn the first time that happened... lol :screwy:
2) I ruined a decent $40 piece of decor for a $4.50 fish (got him from the Petsmart sale this past weekend). :(

Good part is:
1) I was already in the process of shifting over to my new driftwood I've been working on. ;)
2) Saved a cutie. :grinno:

wow 4.50 for a clown loach! lol theyre like 9.50 a peice for a 1.5-2inch one here!!

but sucks bout the decor...

Thanks.

The two little ones I picked up on Saturday are about 1.25inch or so. They're still very small all things considered but I couldn't pass up the deal. Since they're slow growers I put them in with my angelfish for now and will be growing them out and will probably add them to a 180g when I finally get one.

why don't you let them come out when they're ready ? they hide because they're scared... eventually they'll be comfortable and hang out most of the time ...

I tried to get them out because I almost had one die like that before. It freaks me out because the piece of driftwood they were in isn't very easy for them to get out and they easily get wedged inside of it. I already had other places for them to hide.

stopped using resin driftwood when my 10" common pleco got stuck in one ...

also stopped keeping common plecos ...

i've had mine go in crevices where it looks like they're totally stuck , but they come out eventually . sometimes they completely disappear for days ... happens in some pieces of regular driftwood too

Clown loaches are being farmed like crazy now so prices will continue to drop. Doesn't make them any less loachy, though.

Sorry about the cave. I have raphael cats so I have the same concerns when choosing decor.

Loaches are ok... it's those spiny eels you really have to worry about. I swear every one of them has a death wish.

When changing the aquascaping in my 55, I had this big rocky looking resin piece with holes in the bottom (so that it doesnt float, obviously) and apparently she dug out the back of it and swam inside. I couldnt find here in the tank (she wasnt in her pvc) so I panicked and ran to the sink (where the decoration was sitting...not in water) looked inside and right away she slipped out of it. Scariest thing ever..she almost went down the drain.. She was fine, but wouldnt eat until i put the piece back into the tank :grinno:

Well now I know where she lives (dunno how she fits in it still) so I have it propped up and she hangs out there just sticking her head out. Hoping that when I put her in the 210, i dont have to bring that nightmare of a decoration in it too. Its ugly and holds memories of a bad surprise.
