I got into a fight with my cra^^^y azz canister filter last night and went crazy on ebay and bought a Hagen luval 405. The media it comes with stated Carbon and "glass something". Ummmm, I have a 55 g community tank, with a dual bio wheel (a little carbon, I used to cut it out when I had Arowana's, knowing they can't handle it well)

I know loaches can be delicate to certain things, but am still in the loach learning state. I have a 4" Clown L. and a 6" Dojo Loach and 2 baby Dojo's.
Can they handle the carbon in the Fluval OK? If not, what would you suggest I replace it with?

Now my Canister media is foam, soggy thick pieces in each of 4 baskets, ceramic rings and ammo chips. So this once is getting switched out, I will use some or all of the current media if necessary to do the change over.

I usually run zero's across the board on chem tests with a ph of 8.8 due to well water/high mtn glacial runoff. The fish all seem to thrive on the hardness.

So, Loaches and Carbon, what's the deal? Ok or No K ?

Peace Out-mei

My baby Dojo, the one named "Jodo" (thanks Johnptc) sucks on my arms like crazy the entire time I have any part of my hand or arms in the tank, it is so funny, just glad he doesn't have teeth!

Glass something=fiber glass? That would be itchy for the loaches.

As for carbon, I don't feel it necessary for use.

Carbon should not be a problem but I would replace it with more biomedia myself.
