Third post...

Got my blue lobster a month or so ago and it molted and died. when it molted, i noticed that it never really got its vibrant blue color back...

does anyone know what may have been the cause or were my fish just busters and decided to mess with it while the shell was soft?! LORD, that sucks...

still sad, guess im gonna have to grab another one..

THANKS GUYS.

Any sort of stress to a cray after if molts can kill it. Did the cray have a secure hiding place to stay while it molted and hardened up again? The barbs could have picked it to death.

Sometimes death after a molt can be caused by lack of certain elements in the water, like iodine and calcium.

The fish listed are soft water species. The cray may not have been able to store enough calcium to form its new carapace. Also, as said above, crays require at least a trace of iodine in the system to successfully molt. Without iodine, membranes don't separate easily from the old carapace and the cray may exhaust itself trying to accomplish its molt.

How do you go about adding iodine to the tank? can you just use some table salt? If so how much would you want to add? Would the iodine be harmful to the fish at all?

My cray misteriously died last night, I am wondering if that could be it, I was just thinking it was about time to probably molt for him...
