Even though the main point of the article is entirely wrong, I was very impressed that the PETCO employee told the man that goldfish produce the most waste of any fish and need a large tank.

sigh....i keep 5 currently in 2g bowls BUT i do a rotating daily 100% water change (bowl gets cleaned and refilled every 5 days) and replenish water from 38g or 75g cycled tanks...there more work than the larger tanks...i had 7 but wouldn't go more than that...my bettas average 4 years life spans from time of purchase and that's including the odd suicides...

my point is the only way i feel they can be kept in bowls is tons of water changes...i like to think using cycled tank water helps a lot but that's just a theory of mine ..aged water would probably work too

personally, I like to keep betta in filtered set-ups of 3G or more . . . that being said, the article is really not that bad . . . the important thing was stressing that goldfish don't belong in bowls

You DO know that Bettas live in Thailand in the wild? How does one heat a plastic fishbowl?

I had a Betta for who knows how long in a heated, filtered, planted 5g. He was an awesome fish with more personality than any other small fish I ever had. Then the dang thing took a leap of faith and is now, I assume, decaying behind my dresser :irked::(

That is one bad article. I keep mine in a 3 gallon with a filter. I don't get why people think bettas don't need to space to swim. And why they keep them in containers, it's sick. Bettas deserve more. THEY DO SWIM!!!!

Mine has a 12 gallon all to himself, no filter but a heater and 50% water changes every week. He seems very happy :-)

Some one should write into that paper, or even leave a comment about that article... i would have personally, but i'm too lazy...
