So I got hit pretty bad by that snow storm that hit Massachusetts really bad last weekend and we have more trees down in my yard than I know what to do with. When I was cutting up the branches I noticed quite a few pieces from a big oak tree that I think would look bad ass in my tank. Is it okay to use those branches as drift wood if i strip all the bark off and dry them out?

I don't see why not....I would soak them and add some salt to kill whatever is living in there.....maybe add a little bleach....it's going to leech out some tannis...

If they were recently alive, they're going to be super "green." They'll have lots of sappy stuff in there, and leach for a long time.

It'd take a long time for them to dry out in the sun.

Are you patient? This process is going to take 1-2 months. You must let the wood soak in water for months before it will sink and before all the tans are out. It must be boiled and probably should be bleached.

I can wait, hopefully...lol
