An island somewhere......
First off, a few "Thanks" are in order. Thanks to VMike for caring and raising this Location "Z" for the past few years... we did it buddy. To my buddy Gani/Ruck Fules for passing the torch so I could take a stab at spawning "Kamodo/Big Mike".... And to UmbeeKing (Chris) for bringing in this little itty bitty "Location Z" into the hobby.

The first spawn took place earlier last month after a week of courtship between the WC "Location Z" male and my WC Rio Magdalena female. She was originally paired up with my "Location X" male and was a prolific breeder.... figured she would probably be a shoe in for "Big Mike". I took several safety measures to protect her (as she's on of my favorite fish) from being murdered since Big Mike has been known to put the smack down on his ladies. The fry have since been pulled and in a growout tank.... the numbers of the "Mag-Z" are very limited as he didn't do a great job during spawning. He's an OLD fella and blind in one eye so his aim was a bit off. Not sure if he has anything left in the chamber after this spawn.... he looks like he's starting to give out to old age.

Enjoy. (make sure you watch it in HD)

Congratulations Sean! This old umbee fart finally did it after killing several females, 4 to be exact.

We only know of 3 in captivity (Kamodo/Big Mike, Weedamese, and a female somewhere in the East Coast). For the member in the east coast who has the female, please contact me or Sean. We would like to breed this male location Z with a female location Z. I don't think Chris (Umbeeking) has disclosed the actual location where he collected so please don't ask me or Sean about location point.

Parents with free swimming fry as of early September.

Freckle quantity From secret "Z"+ freckle big size from Rio mag. Good combo. This is it.

How old is the old guy ? That female is awesome!

This umbee was caught and brought back by Chris in early 2010 at 16". We will never know exactly how old this fish is but has been in captivity for close to 4 years now and is around 20". Based on the slow growth rate, I would think it is at least 10 + years old.
