I was fortunate enough to adopt a loggerhead musk hatchling from a fellow herp enthusiast this week. While I've worked with turtles quite a bit, this is my first pet turtle, and I couldn't be happier with him. Here are a bunch of pictures. And, coincidentally, if anyone ever wants to know about turtle laws in Florida, I know way more than I ever thought I would, and I'd be happy to share the info. ;)

Thanks! If you really are interested in getting one, I do know of a few vendors in the U.S. that overnight-ship them (one in CA, one in NV). It's illegal to buy or sell loggerheads in Florida, so unfortunately I had to wait til I could find one needing adoption. It totally paid off though-- they are an amazing species!

very cool. I find them all the time in the springs up here- they are all over the place! They are neat little turtles.

Cool, where in FL are you? I'm in Gainesville but haven't gotten around to visiting any springs yet, just Santa Fe River.

He is sooooo cute! I love loggerhead musk turtles, I must own one someday. But it sucks when you have to pay more in shipping than the turtle itself costs... I'm hoping to find one at a show this year, but there's only one in Ky, and while its not bad, its not great either.

Are you talking about the one in Lex? I went last year and there was not a lot going on, especially in the turtle/tortoise department. It was disappointing.

Awesome little turtle! I have been eyin these for a while and I will hopefully get one in the future. Awesome setup too looks very natural.

Musks are great pet turtles and much easier to take care of than the commonly available RES. Enjoy it!

Not to mention they don't get nearly as big.
