Would this be possible in a 90 gallon (4ft x 2ft x 18" high)? w/c 1 x week, 2 HOB AC 110's

I have a male Gold Saum that's pushing 6" but he's currently living, in relative "harmony," with a 7" female JD, and a Juvie Male FM. Both the FM and JD would be replaced with the Loisellei.

Also I would prefer the one with the better color...female I think right?

This is just for future reference, not sure about making this change or not.

Thanks to all!

Bump

Noone has any opinions on this?

I have read that a pair of Loisellei need at least 75 gallons, so I am assuming one Loisellei would work in a 90 with a GT, although I have never kept them.

Thought this would be an interseting tank and figure someone here must have tried it before

yes a loiselli and a gt could work in a 90 gal with those dimentions.i wouldn't be to concerned about aggresion personally as IME with both those speices nethier is crazy aggresive.

It's hit or miss really. You could have 2 that don't work and switch them out for 2 identical but different fish and it work out just fine.

Like I said I don't have experience keeping the Loisellei but as described on the net (at least what I've read) they seem to be along the same level of agression? Am I underestimating them as being similar in agression to GT's and JD's etc? Would they be along the lines of FH and Midas/red Devils as far as agression?

I would like to keep a 12" fish in that 90 and they are predatory with great color, reading about them here and elsewhere just got me interested in them. I don't have the room for a tank suitable for a larger Parachromis species such as a Jag etc...

I don't impulse buy so I'm just trying to learn about them and their compatibility

Thanks again

I have seen loisellei that are docile and a good friend of mine kept one in a 55g with a jd for two years... but the one I had untill 9" was more like a rd with agression... kille da few fish in a 100g, and in the end I was able to keep it with a FH of the same size with lots of casualties among the convict and SD target fish ;)

Hmmmm...interesting...I think I'll have to consider a larger tank and tankmates other than the GT eh?
Doesn't look like its gona happen for me at the moment.

So tankmates could be RD, FH, or a single Loisellei pair in a 90 - 125 gallon?

Soooo many fish I'd like to keep but not enough room arrgghhhhh! :D

Keeping any "aggressive" fishes together depends largely on the individual fishes' personality. One Loiselli could be a stone cold killer while another like a fuzzy kitten.

With that said, I keep a bunch of stone cold killers together in a 190, including a female Loiselli and a male Green Terror. These two are in with a big Friedrichsthalii male, 2 big Managuense males and a smaller managuense male, a big Red Terror female, 2 good size Oscars, and 2 Synodontuses. All these guys get along fine. But don't take this as advice. What has worked for me may not work for others. Good luck.:)
