Just saved 6 in Loiselli from my local fish store. He was appearing to be beaten down by a 11 in oscar and some 8 to 10 in frontosa. I got him for free but am wondering if they normally lay on there sides and cling to the bottom of the tank. It seems like he cant stay off the bottom,he stops swimming and sinks right down. The LFS which i now know has very few educated employee, told me there just shy fish and he will be fine in a week or so. Well weeks gone by and he is in a 40 gallon hospital tank away from my Oscar who i thought was intimidating him. But nothing changed,is it a disease,a ph problem maby ..Im lost i would really appreciate any suggestions? Thank you..

yes it is somewhat common, for new fish, to lay on the sides, while being introduced into a new aquarium, he should be okay soon

He will be up and around just give him time, maybe even lower the light levels in your tank. I have a mont, they are similar mine always wants to kill stuff, he is by himself but from his tank he can see some zebras (Africians) and is constantly displaying for them. get him a convict or something to chase around the tank he will be up in no time.

I got a pair last week, when you frighten or stress the male he still does this(lay on his side) the female however does not

I would have to agree with Labiatus. My female Loisellei is much more outgoing and aggressive than the male. I'm just noticing, Loisellei are becoming a popular discussion topic.

I was responsible for one of the other threads. Since I now know what he/she is, I can make a comment on this. Mine was very active from about the 3rd or 4th day. *Bonus--He will even eat from my hand. Something I have only experienced with my Oscar. I can't wait till he grows up.

My male jag did that when i first dropped him in my tank. theres probalby nothing wrong with him, and yes it probalby is stress, but it probably wouldnt hurt to add a bit of rock salt and some melafix just to make sure, i did that with my jag and he perked up pretty quickly. like craig said...do you have any pictures??

Sleeping to...my sevs and tiger oscar do it all the time
