Was at the LFS, Just pricing some stuff and picking up a heater for one of my tanks. And the sales associate said to feed the fish cayenne to help there colors. Like once every 2 weeks. I was like :WHOA: has this guy went full :screwy: :nilly: never stops amazing me. Never ever in my life have I heard of feeding spices to my fish. WTF man...

Hate to pop your bubble but it is not an unknown practice to feed spice to animals. Take a look at some of the chew toys for parrots.

As spices are of much benefit to the human being, I would suppose that there might just be some truth to what the employee told you. Would have to do some research to find out though.

Its okay to burst my bubble i have been in the hobby for near 30 years Im laughing at the fact you cant go telling people that. Potential new owners. Lets be honest is cayenne in the natural environment? A new owner might try to feed his fish this and give them to much and at least I knew to run here first to MFK. Stupid comment by sale associate IMO.

don't know about it being in the natural environment, but cayenne and other red peppers sure are loved by some CA cichlids.

Watched a fishing show to mexico once where the "Secret weapon" was splashing the lures with some Cholula hot sauce. I've tried using tapatio out for some sunfishing in socal when I was younger, can't say if it made the fishing any better or not though.

I have heard of giving paprika to fish to enhance the red coloration but I haven't heard of cayenne. This is very interesting LOL.

Now paprika i dont think put in my eye would burn as much. Lol. Did u try it? With the foods on the market today would we need to? My mom growing up has always thawed frozen peas and feed her Orandas skinless frozen peas every now and then. Dont get me wrong if it works it works feed them what u want but. Im gonna say no to the cayenne and open to paprika.
