ive heard that frontosas do better in groups... i have one 2 and ahalf inch frontosa with 7 other assorted africans and a coupla chinese algae suckers... the guy seems to be a complete loner, opting to dig all the gravel out of his favorite corner... does he/she need a companion... can i sex them at this size?

They do fine alone, but if you are going to have more than one you need a group never two or three

why is it so...???????because a friend of mine has 3 doing well in his 180 and there is no aggresion issues also between them......
Reason im asking is that im also planing to buy 4 fronts for my african tank.....

Because that's the general rule with african cichlids. You either keep a single fish of a species or you keep a group of them (4+). African cichlids are more aggressive to their own kind so it's best to either keep a single fish or a group of fish to spread the aggression out. This is why breeding groups are composed of one male and multiple females - so no single female is the focus of the male's aggression.

Frontosa are best kept in groups, not alone.

You need to wait till it get's to atleast 4 inches to vent it to find out if it's a male or a female..
