Ok, my roommate is having to move from Tyler to Dallas for medical reasons. She has a 75G with an assortment of fish, and is curious as to how they might take a 2.5 hour drive(to her area if traffic is decent), not counting the time to tear down her tank, then set it back up.

Are there any 'tricks' we could use to make sure she doesn't lose her babies?(Or are we all being paranoid?) Any information y'all could throw me would be greatly apprecaited!!

30 gallon tub, fill half with water, air pump, keep it in the passenger seat of the car and you're good to go. Sounds like they are relatively small fish, so you might be able to get by with a 20 gallon tub. 2.5 hours isn't that bad, you might not even need the air pump.

When I was picking up my catfish (its was a 5 hour drive) . I has a big cooler, I had a dc to ac converter that attach to my cigarret lighter socket. PLug my pump in with an airstone and a small heater because I was driving thru the snow. When I got home, the fish was totally fine with no problem.

If you live in a cold area, using a cooler really help to keep the heat in. Hope this help!! GL!!

Yea, she was freaking out a little bit, but I figured she'd be ok... Her babies(favorites) are her Angels, & Discus... But I know she'd be sad to lose any...

So this dc to ac to the cigarret lighter in the car, where did you get this? I think it would at least put her mind at ease... She probably has 15-20 fish to transport (biggest being the angels, smallest some neons), the cooler idea isn't a bad idea, probably will try that one! Thanks y'all, if anyone else has any ideas just keep 'em coming!

I moved from tahoe to the bay area, 4 hour drive. I tore down the tank and gave my fish to my boss in tahoe. All except for a kuhli loach that disappeared. I got to the bay, crashed out for the evening and set my tank up the next day. Sure enough that kuhli popped out of nowhere and lived another couple years on top of that. Some fish are very resiliant. That being said, the advice given above sounds very good. I'd also recommend a top to the container. Keeps splashing the dashboard and driver to a minimum. You can get a converter at sears, home depot or, ebay pretty cheap.

2.5 hour's that's nothing!!! i have to drive to arizona from new york city in may and i dont know if my fish will make it, the last time i drove i brought a betta and a 2 zebra danio's with me in a small quart size soup cup and they did fine but the monster's im bringing this time i dunno... all i could do is hope for the best!!!!and drive fast lol.........

When I moved, we used a battery powered air pump, bought it from like Meijer or a pet supplies store. Put them all in a rubbermaid tub! lol. They did great. I was going from Mich. to Ontario, crossing a bridge, sitting thru customs. I don't blame her for worrying about her babies, nothin wrong with that!

Ill be making a move in dec from here back home to Longview TX. Thats 1300 miles! Im going with the cooler with a heater and air pump. Iv made the drive before so itll be 22 hours straight!

Unless I feel like spending the money and having a friend ship them to me...

I moved from South Florida to South Texas, that was a move, yours is a hop.

Brought a big dovi with me in a cooler with a battery powered air pump.
