Hi all,
I recently got rid of most of my fish to go for a S/A setup. Anyhow, when I was swapping my old stock for a Tiger Oscar, the guy I was dealing with also threw in a second one, and this has elongated fins. I have never seen a long finned version of an Oscar before and to be honest I prefer the look of the natural shape but I took it anyway in case I lost one (never pass up a freebie). Has anyone here ever come across this variety and if so, are they just as hardy and long lived or are they weaker and require special care? Ill post a pic later...

I love veil tailed oscars! (that's what they are called around here) they are beautiful when fully grown and no, they are just as hardy as normal tigers. G'luck with them btw!

Oh, and to the second part - as far as I've read they don't require any extra care - but you do have to watch out for other stock you might have (now or in the future) that might nip at the lovely tail..

i had 1 a while ago but i gave it to a friend of mine coz it didn't look natural and i didn't like it.
i think it is some sort of morph, he's had him for about a year now and he seem to be doing ok.

I had a few many years ago. Nice fish. Didn't do well with the NE Pennsylvania hard water.

I has some as well. they are just as hardy as the normal oscars but i was told that that is how they look in the wild in the amazon.
