so i have a long nose gar for a couple of weeks and have been feeding him feeder guppys and rosy reds and was wondering if their an pellets or any thing else i can feed him that way i wont have to keep going back to my LFS
how large is he? depending on size, u can starve him for a couple of days and try feeding him cut up market shrimp, or hikari sinking carnivore pellets
If done right starving is not required...in fact the starvation method seems like a lazy method to me. I got my 10" longnose eating pellets and market shrimp within the second day of keeping him. Not all are this willing to transition, but given the proper conditions/approach it can usually be done fairly easily.
Starving is absolutely unnecessary to train a gar to new foods. If you put any effort into it, most gars can be trained to new foods surprisingly quickly without starving.
my florida is being very difficult and only ate one chunk of chicken and one chunk of shrimp...i even tryed to tie a chunk of shrimp to a length of fishing line(loosely) and wiggled it in front of its face after a week and a half of no feeders and nothing...i gave in and bought it feeders yesterday...
