Long Spine Sea Urchin

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would say that there isn't enough space in the long run. If you get one very small you should be ok for a while, but the urchins get pretty big with their spines sticking out. Those spines are venomous and the clowns will not like it taking up a lot of there already small habitat. If you want an urchin I would recommend something that doesn't take up as much space, like a blue tuxedo pin cushion urchin that only gets to 3 inches.

Long Spines are neat, but they require a pretty high water quality and they get big enough so that in time they could take up the majority of that tank. In any tank under 40 gallons or so, they will need supplemental food. Also, a couple banggai cardinals would be much better tank mates for a longspine than clowns, as they will actually hide in it's spines. Its actually a tank I've always wanted to try, was a couple longspines and a school of cardinals. Neato.
