Is there anything special that should be done to a 125 gallon tank being stored in a New England basement for 1-2 years? Basement probably wouldn't drop below 50 degrees in the winter. Keeping it running isn't an option.

Thanks

Hello; I have stored tanks empty from time to time and have three that have sat empty for over three years right now. When i get around to setting them up again, they will need to be rinsed well as dust and stuff will have settled into them. I will also test fill them in a suitable place to check for leaks before putting them in place in the house.

Perhaps the more important thing is to put a tank somewhere out of the way so that the glass does not get cracked or broken. I do not sit a tank on the floor as there are too many things that can hit one. The more out of the way the better so that things being carried about have less of a chance to bump into them.

As far as I know there is nothing that needs to be or can be done to protect the silicone. It will be of interest to hear from someone with knowledge if such a treatment is known of. Having the tank away from extremes of temperature and out of the strong sun may help but silicone is fairly tough. I left a tank outside where it got strong sun for part of the day and was exposed to weather for a few months and it had no issues when set up later.

i live in ct myself and have gotten a 55 a while back from a friend that was stored outside on a porch. by the time it was given to me the trim needed to be replaced but the tank itself held fine.
