I'm setting up a 180g as a heavily planted temperate tank, and wanted to stock with Channa. I'd have preferred auranti's but have been advised that 180g may not be large enough for a pair due to aggression levels.

Is a 180g large enough to house a group of 6 pulchra long term, or when a pair eventually forms will the others need to be removed due to aggression?

If pulchra are too aggressive, could it be done with bleheri or another species?

Well my original intent was to get auranti's. If a pair could be kept safely for life in a 180 then it would be an easy choice. BUT I've heard they can turn on each other pretty quickly. I don't have available tank space to rehome a fully grown auranti, nor do I want to keep them in subpar conditions.

Pulchra's are my next choice but not sure I want to dedicate a whole 180 to 2 dwarf fish.......

Bleheri are supposed to be fairly peaceful, but I've never kept them.

Any suggestions?

Pulchra grow pretty big, 12-13 inchs

Aurantis are awesome, i see hwere your coming from with tank space though.

Bleheri would be good but like you said dedicating a tank like that to a small fish is a waste

Have you thought about Pleuro's, Asiatica ( Very Nice! ), Stewarti (more colourful varient) Channa Blue Moon???

I have 4 Stewarti Cf Barca they are looking goood!!! so far
