Just recieved an order of red irian and boesemani rainbowfish and noticed a threadlike strand at the end of one of their tails. All of the fish are currently in a 30g quarantine tank until I can figure out how to get rid of this. It seems like some sort of fungus or rotting along with it, but I am not that good at identifying freshwater diseases.

Looks like anchor worm (lernaea).

i'm not too sure if its anchor worm, all of the pics of anchor worm i've seen don't look anything like this. I could be wrong though, Can anyone confirm this?

No this isn't anchor worm, i'm positive. Anchor worms are much smaller and fatter than this, and usually you will find alot more than just one on the body of the fish. I'm sorry that i can't help you any further though its got me stumped as well.

Treat you fish with API General Cure Anti-Parasite it contains 250 mg Metronidazole and 75 mg Praziquantel per packet. Each packet treats 10 gals, follow the directions on the package and your fish will be fine.
