I have always been into fishing and recently inherited a 20 gallon tank. I never thought much about keeping my own fish, but WOW, I'm hooked! My girlfriend recently went with me to petsmart to keep the obsession under control. I had a little issue with fish dying at first and I think it was a mix of ick and nipping from tetras. I learned before diving in about cycling and making sure nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia levels were under control.
Started off with 3 columbian red blue tetras, 3 black skirt tetras, 3 neon tetras, and 2 albino corys. I added them all between 2 batches and let them get used to the water for an hour or so. I now know I probably should only do 1 or 2 fish at a time. A lot of them were forming what I thought were "bubbles" sticking to them but later learned it was ick. Some of the fish would have their tails and fins nipped which I am sure accelerated the infection.
Long story short but the correct supplies and the ick problem is gone.
Here is what I have so far, is it safe to add more little 1-1.5" fish?
2 black platys (the large male is a bully to the other platy/mollies)
2 Ballon Mollys
2 Cory Catfish
3 Raspboras
I need to get a water testing kit myself but everytime I bring it into the petsmart they say the water is good.
Also have a 5g with:
4 ghost shrimp
4 White mountain clouds
1 oto
Birthday is in 2 weeks and I'm trying to convince the lady to be cool with a 100g tank.
20g half planted half fake

This is all a learning experiment and I'm hoping to get all my
moments out now before I move to the big leagues. Hope you guys like it. I have a nice SLR for pictures but I have a presentation in microbiology tomorrow!! What am I doing instead?? On MFK, OBSESSED as my girlfriend would say.
