I've never been a big fan of hybrids, and honestly I'm still not. Especially of the sort that could be mistaken for something else by unscrupulous breeders or unaware buyers.

But, flowerhorns have really grown on me. So much so that I picked one up yesterday. This little guy is about 2" long.

I don't think he'll be a kokster, but I think he'll grow up to have great color.

dang that thing look nice ,hey! you never know lol the kok might pop at anytime bro ,how much did you get it for and what stain is it?

I hope he'll get at least a bit of a kok...fingers crossed! :)

I got him for $30.

His tank was labeled as "Ruby Gemstone"...of course we all know how useful names like that actually are. I have no idea what strain it is...I'm not advanced enough yet in my flowerhorn-keeping to be able to figure it out. I've been trying, though. The closest I've been able to find are red-based Thai Kamalaus.

Nice, he looks like that at 2 inches and barebottom/no background? Hope to see him in a month or two from now.

Tank is definitely temporary. He's in one of my 20 gal quarantine tanks for a week or two for observation before moving on up! His next tank will have a nice plant background and some natural colored gravel.
