Appx. 4 months and I have to explain. :D

I had a buddy who had a 30 gallon tank that I maintained for him years ago. I had to move away on business for about 3 months. I quit taking care of his tank and all of his fish died (but one) as he had no desire to mess with the tank.

When I got back and went to visit him his tank looked like crap and was about 2/3 full of water. He said he would add water every now and then because one fish was still alive in there. Sure enough there was a very healthy looking Red Tail Shark happily swimming around feeding on the plentiful algae. There was also skeletal remains of what may have been one of his Silver Dollars.

When I got my 55 gallon running about a month later he asked me if I wanted the Red Tail as he was going to throw out the tank. I went to get him and he still looked healthy as could be. He lived out another 5+ years in my 55 with an Oscar and was one of the most beautiful Red Tails I have ever seen.
