I have a Florida Gar that sometimes lays on the bottom. I just got him in the mail about three weeks ago. He had pretty tattered fins when I got him, but his fins are getting better in my tank. Also, he has been active and eating well. He has eaten about 3 or 4 goldfish over the last few days and was eating within the first few days of getting him. He seems fine and doesn't do this all time and usually is only for a few minutes. I know that normally fish laying on the bottom is maybe a sign of stress or parasites. Is this normal behavior for gars?

Mine used to lay on the bottom all the time, the ones in the washington zoo lay on the bottom, and my alligator used to lay on the bottom. I say used to because my house was struck by lightning and fried both of my gars.

This is perfectly normal behavior for a gar. By the way, you'd get more responses if you repost this in the "Gar" sub-forum.
