LONGNOSE GAR (Lepisosteus osseus)

Here are some pics of the 6"ers I collected in my travels. All are eating good on live guppies and live grass shrimp. These guys were collected on the SW side of the "Lake Okeechobee" at the mouth of the Caloosahatchee River and the lake. Very nice wild caught longnose gars. I remember when mine was the small, mine just ate 2doz feeder goldfish in two days. they get big fast if you keep them fed.

That's a great looking Longnose gar, I just love the start of baby longnose gar season. Now to get some and grow them up into monsters

What is up with the dorsal stripe???? A bit odd for Longnosed.

Then there are rumors of odd Longnosed in the Okeechobee area.

The dorsal stripe is from it being young. It goes away as they get bigger.
