I have both a channel catfish and a longnose gar and I just set up a tank in my basement where it is pretty cold down there do you guys think that it would be okay, I would say its anywhere from 65 degrees to 70 degrees, and my channel catfish is doing fine in there i just wanted to make sure that its not to cold.

Longnose gars live up here in the Ottawa river and that water gets much colder than 70F. Now I don't know if they stay in the Ottawa river all winter long, but they are here in the spring for sure when the water is still fairly cold.

Maybe someone with actual captive experience can confirm this.

gars can adapt to just about any water qaulity. cold water will be fine. when i first got my longnose i kept the water around 70 degrees.

they can adapt to a large range of water temperature, but should not be expected to adapt to a large range of water quality...they technically two different things; and longnoses in particular are on the more sensitive side to water quality, especially in captivity.

65-70F isn't necessarily ideal, but it should be ok for the fish...just keep an eye on it and note its feeding behavior. what is of greater concern is the channel catfish tankmate, not really a great combo for the long run--

i kind of meant more along the lines of temp. all my tanks ph are always 7.0 and 0 ammonia. i know they are 2 different things and should have been more clear in my post.

Well i just moved him and the channel cat into a tank with two clown knifefish and they need water at about 72-75 degrees is that fine i have it about 74 degrees?

what are the sizes of the clowns?
