im setting up a nano folwr (well atleast for awhile and for upgraded lighting)

i want a longnose hawkfish so all stuff about this thread is consiring this fish (tank size and tankmates)

what tank size do i need ( i was hoping i could get away with 10gal)

what tankmates ( i read that they are good with anything thats not to small to eat could i try 1-2 green chromis ? )

and best food types for it

Hawkfish arn't active swimmers so you don't need to big of a tank, But 10 gallons may be pushing it. I'm not really sure.

As for food hawkfish are carnivores so feed it frozen foods but flakes won't hurt here and there.

Tankmate... I think their fine with most fish except their own species. My flame hawk get's along good with my clowns, chromis', tangs, and gobys/blennies. But don't hold me on this.

here is some basic info for you

MAXIMUM SIZE 5"
TEMPERATURE RANGE 74 - 82
PH RANGE 8.0 - 8.4
DIET Carnivore
DIFFICULTY Easy
ORIGIN Indo-Pacific
COMMON NAME Longnose Hawkfish
INVERT SAFE No
SCIENTIFIC NAME Oxycirrhites typus
REEF SAFE Yes
COMMUNITY SAFE Yes

i have one in my 30g. they arent active swimmers (as stated above) but mine goes nuts when anyone goes near the tank. so it always gets attention. it will eat damn near anything too, so its really easy to feed.

they are also reef safe, to a point. they have a tendancy to sit on corals. i have anemones, and it hasnt gone near them. but there is always the chance it may sit on one. mine likes to sit on my mushrooms, leather corals, and green star polyps. more delicate corals may not like being sat on. i also would not keep them with shrimp or small fish, as they have deceptively large mouths.

i love mine. its one of the most personable fish ive kept. up there with puffers. i keep mine with a fuzzy dwarf lion. both get on fine. infact spend most of the time together.
