Loofah in the sump?

Found natural loofahs at the dollar store, Didn't buy 'em. Wondering if they would decompose in a filtration situation. Anybody know?

If I remember correctly, they will work, but decomposition/breakdown was a definite concern.

it is a dried vegetable, so it being wet 24/7 and never having a chance to dry out, it would eventually mold and break down i would expect...

I have tried sponges and they broke down real fast. I found a huge sponge for cleaning your car, I thought super mechanical filter for my canister. BAD IDEA, I went to clean the canister, When I reach for the sponge which was black and nasty; it denigrated.
