Just thought I'd share a pic of my little monster. At a whopping 6 inches :), this 18 y/o (hmmm...or maybe 19) little Labyrinth Fish was the scourge of my tanks in the past. Following advice from various knowledgeable hobbyists, I mixed/matched this bad boy in various set-ups (up to 90g), determined to have him in a community. Eventually had to give up, as I don't have space to set him up on a larger community tank.

From juvenile to adulthood, the list of of victims this little terror has dispatched reads like a "who's who" of the cichlid world, including breeding pairs of convicts, RDs over twice it's mass, and various Africans.

He now lives alone (for quite a while) in a 30g.

Would love to hear from others who have this fish or just feedback of the pics.

Combtail paradise fish! Meanest S.O.B. I ever had.
Mine made the mistake of "F"ing with my Oscar, He became dinner.:(
Most distributors quit carrying them, Because they are all that mean!
Do you want to send him my way, ;)
I'll send shipping money today.
I've got some females that would love to meet him.:)

Spike;)

I know that isn't but it looks like a cichlid

Funny you should say that. Unlike other Labyrinth fishes, Combtails behave like pugnacious cichlids.

They do like to pick on other fish, they are very territorial, mine killed a couple of larger Oscars in the past. Unlike yours, mine was lucky the Oscars weren't big enough to eat him.

Awesome pics....mine never stayed still enough long to get such a good pic!!! Thanks for posting the thread. Although they are aggressive, I think they make the perfect mini monster due to their attitudes and personality. More LFS should sell them, might save some oscars and pacus to a life in a 30gal!!!

I completely agree. Many beginners get the Oscar itch, but yet don't realized the space needed to keep one as a "wet pet". I think Combtails are perfect for ppl who want an aggressive predatory fish that has personality and stays small. Plus they are long-lived and look very cool, just take a look at all that muscle on my little bruiser! :)
