Haven't seen this type before. Are they another type of sunfish? I have two types of bluegill in my tank. One has a shorter, stubby area from the eyes to the upper lip. The other has a pointed and longer mouth and also starting from the eyes to the the upper lip. Could these fish below be variations also?

Remember that bluegill is its own species (Lepomis macrochirus). But there are other sunfishes in the genus Lepomis. So there are many possibilites of what you have.
In the first pic, you see all bluegills. However in the second pic, you see a pretty even mix of bluegills and redear sunfish (Lepomis microlophus).

There are several subspecies of Bluegill including the Handpaint Bluegill and the Florida Bluegill and in some areas theyre intergrades; on Nanfa Centrarchid has pictures of several subspecies and could probably help as long as he has accurate info as to where the pictures were taken.

are these yours or did you find these swimming?
