THIS! my mother sent me this picture of my fish tank and as you can tell algea has exploded in my water. It looks so wonderful! (sarcasm) But anyways I will be going home this friday for break and I will treat it with something but I am going to try a good water change first. The lights are off all day now to try and control it but it appears that it hasnt dont much good from what my mother is telling me. And yes that is my trimac waiting for food of course!

I think your best bet is to invest in a uv sterilizer while your gone.

Yikes!!! Something must be wrong. How long were the lights before this??

The lights are never on that long from what my mom tells me but she wouldn't admit it anyway, I am going to buy a timer also so this doesnt happen again, this is a first for me too in the two years of college I haven't had a problem with this in the 29 gallon, but this 75 sure did explode

I went on vacation for 3 weeks, had my lil brother house sit and tank sit. I was too lazy to buy timers so instructed my lil bro to turn on and off the lights accordingly. I get home and peasoup!!! he said is did exactly what i said...right!!! $#&% I know his lazy %$& kept the light on 24/7. while doing a major water change I noticed he also over feed them. he's 86ed from house sitting.

If you got a sump, filtering through a thick layer of cottonwool will reduce the algae drasticly.
I'm so lucky I was taught my love for fish by my mother.
The sweet woman takes care of all animals, including all of my fish and tanks when me and the family go on a holiday.
Checks the filters, keeps to the described amount and kind of food I tell her, and has never screwed anything up.
I'm not dissing your mom, just praising mine!lol
Good luck with your tank.

Correct me if I'm wrong but is that a window I see through the tank? Is there an window with light piercing the V-blinds, hmmmm maybe you should just tell mom to stop opening the blinds during the day or put a background on the tank. For I highly dought that your aquarium light unless left on 24/7 for weeks at a time caused your tank to go GREEN like that.

wow that is insane iv NEVER seen a tank that GREEN before must have sunlight or something coming onto it pretty directly, and yeah i could see my mother doing the same thing i have 125 with a few africans and pictus cats and that poor tank only gets cleaned when i go home once a month (at most which is why im having them bring it to my new place:) but yeah im lucky if she remembers to FEED the poor fish at least once a day :(
