anyone got id on it? id kinda like to keep one. theyre pretty common around here.

That's a salamander,u can keep'em ,kinda same setup u would have for a new

Spotted salamander, it should be breeding time for them up your way, if you have a pond nearby expect to see their egg masses in it. You could probably keep one in a 10G as they're not terribly active, they don't swim so it can be all land but keep it moist. Insects, worms, slugs for food. You can probably find a good caresheet online for tiger salamanders; care for spotteds will be very similar. They're mole salamanders...they dig, you might not see it much.

My friend just found one over the weekend on his front porch after a rain shower. They are indeed on the move to find a place to lay eggs. They spend 95% of the year under ground so they make boring pets in captivity. The one my friend found was placed in his goldfish pond and he now has 2 large egg masses starting to develop.

I have seen spawnings of these, it's pretty impressive. Picture a mass American toad spawning, only with salamanders, and at night. Also the egg masses are easy to recognize as the mass will be milky rather than clear as in most local frogs' eggs.

Thats great they are common by you I love them. Most that keeep herps not into them but they are my favorite.

would do great in a 20 + gal terrarium. just give it a shallow water source somewhere in the tank. whats nice is that since its common near your home, you could fill the tank with native plants

Cool!
I found one of these when I was out riding my dirtbike a few years ago.
Haven't seen any since.
