So, took a trip down to San Diego to a decently sized fish store to look around and kill some time. Last time I was in there was mostly salt water but still nice stuff. Get to looking around and come across 3 SAPs. Thought to myself "hmmm if they have these I wonder if there is any other fresh water puffers in here." get to the very last section of tanks and see a hairy puffer. Good looking little guy, not really my type of fish but still nice. Next tank is a 5 inch MBU, also nice and plump little baby. Looked sad in the corner but healthy none the less. Next cubby was labeled "Fahaka" and I got excited seeing as we just set up a Fahaka habitat this week! Tanks empty. Boo. Next tank down was labeled "Avacodo Puffer" but nothing to be seen. Look closely and find this little guy...
Clearly the tank was mislabeled, or they moved him over a tank and never changed the label, because this definitely looks like a Fahaka to me. He swam to the glass once I got close, fins fluttering and eyeballs looking me up and down. Hes extremely skinny, hopefully no IPs but I treated for some anyways. Hes in a small tank with some meds and stresscoat right now and later I will attempt to see if I can get him to eat. They had the Fahaka labeled at 50 bucks and I told them he didnt look good and they gave him to me for 10 bucks no guarentee he would survive. I just wanted to rescue the little guy because he looked absolutely starved and so sad.
PS, that cichlid is the only fry we found from our African tank. He is now divided off because as soon as the little guy got comfy he took a snap at the cichlid. Luckily he got away unharmed but they are seperate now.
