The auranti is back. after 5 months of hibernation the auranti woke up following some hot weather and a 150g water change yesterday. he's barely eaten more than a couple of pellets since november but hopefully the big guy will starting eating again soon.

He still looks grumpy but then he always does! he bizarrely seems to have carried on growing over the winter and must be around 15" now. Will get some better pics soon!

He's a big softie! never seen a single bit of aggression from him towards any fish even ones around 3-4". here's a pic of him before hibernation

Channa of north east india hibernate as the temp drops to about 19 degrees in winter. i've had my tank at about 23 degrees much to the annoyance of my other fish so he hasn't fully hibernated just laid pretty motionless for all bar about half an hour a day. i think next winter i will sort out a seperate tank for him so i can keep him at about 10 degress and keep the other fish happy all winter.
