lookdowns

I have had Look Downs in the past a few times. THey are problematic fish. THey Don't ship very well and seem to develope skin problems real easy. I have had to keep them on antibiotics for extended periods of time when I get them in. They can also be finicky eaters, I have had good luck starting them on live ghost shrimp and weaning them to krille and other meaty foods. Eventually mine would eat just about everything I offered thembut it took a while and some serious persistance. THey will live singularly but seem happier in groups. I would not consider this a reef safe fish. They will eat shrimp and small fish and they get pretty large. Ive got them up to 6- inches but have seen them in the wild pushing about 12" in diameter.

Do-able but diffacult....

I had a school for awhile. They came in rough and it did take some time for them to settle in. After they got passed that, they are awesome fish. Sadly, my pair of green moray eels picked them off one by one over a two year period.

They get quite large and need alot of swimming room. They are, to the best of my knowledge, reef safe. I actually catch them ALOT up here in the atlantic off the coast of NY in the summer. I caught some larger ones in a drag net this summer. Cool fish but i've experienced many owners having problems with them, but i wouldnt be surprised if local fish suppliers are catching them locally just as I have and selling extra stressed fish for big $$$

here is a school i cought one day this past summer.

Lookdown's are a schooling fish so it is recomended to have at least 3 in a tank. To keep 3 full grown lookdown's your looking at 250+G. To keep baby's like these your looking at min 55G untill they reach 6-7 inches. If you got any outher question's feel free to pm me or ask me here. I handled hundreads of them every summer.

Thats a lot of fish.

Ive never kept lookdowns...I hear too many horror stories to bother getting them. I also have heard they need a crazy amount of space..plus you need to keep them in groups, so that means you need even more room.
