fl spotted gar

iv had him about a year now and hes about 18 inch long feeds on pelets now and is pretty much easy going i was wondering if any one would care to make some suggestions on what other fish would go nice with my lil fishy perferably other gar types TY

Sorry man, no gars 'cause you're in CA and it's illegal to keep gars in CA :grinno:

How big is the tank? Maybe some cichlids instead?

its 55gal soon to be a 110gal (just need to set it up)
what other gars would get along with my spotted?

Well in that case an 18'' long fish shouldn't be in a 55G anyway and you should either upgrade soon or do something with him. Even a 110G is rather tight for a fish that's a foot and a half...
 
Try to get a 180 if you can. You can keep other gar species (shortnose, longnose, tropical, cuban) and they should be alright, but if you go longnose you'd want something even bigger than a 180 I think.

Bichirs are good tankmates for gars also.

ya some bichirs. thats the start of my tank so far. i have a 60x26x23 155 gallon on the way this weekend and the start of my stocking list is 2x bichirs and a gar (not sure what type of gar yet, if you have a pick of your florida send it to me :) ) .. but ya. if your gar usually spends most of his time at the top .. maybe closer to middle of tank think about some stuff for lower middle or bottom (like bichirs)
 
yea i recently upgraded my fish from a 140 to a 220 he is happy now!! actually they both are! I have a gator and a florida spotted and they like the space they can turn around and have plenty of hunting area for those minnows i throw in there...i wish I could find some more gar but hard to come by in my area usually...my next upgrade will be a 500 gallon in the spring!!!
