I was looking at a stingray at the lfs the other day, its off live and healthy as can be. the guy said its a common stingray to get in. i think moto? im new to rays. but i was wondering what i could keep with the ray?

eel? yellow tail cuda's , wolf fish ( lol ) what are some good tank mates.

thanks

btw the stingray is about 5-6 inchs in diameter

being new to rays u realy have to do some home work, its a huge step and alot of work, the first ammonia spike and uv got a very expensive casulty, now u need to ask urself a few questions, whats your substrate? are you committed to LOTS of frequent and regular waterchanges, are you going to be able to cator to a finiky diet, all rays are different and prefer different foods, lots of frozen or fresh shrimps and cut tilapia

the wolf was a joke lol.
the ray i am looking at loves blood worms. loves em ! lol goes ape **** when they are in the tank. but cutting up some fish for the ray wouldnt be a problem. my tank has amazing filtration system. water changes dont matter to me. doesnt take long, plus im ocd about how clean the tank is.

i am looking for just a plain sweet set-up i havent dont yet. i havent had a ray

what i have in mind.

black sand. the little ray ( yes i know he will get bigger) some active fish in the tank as well. just a good overall look. the ray is tank and looks to be tan spots like the moto's posted in another thread. its listed at 129.99.

Actually I have a Hoplias Curupira wolf in with my rays. So you don't need to joke about the wolf. I also have an Armatus, tigrinus, mbu puffer, pair of black arowanas and a pair of lenticulata pikes in with my rays.

Not only do u want good filtration but rays also like a lot of flow...And if ur new to rays a motoro would be a great choice to start off with as ur first ray...

well, i think i may pick it up then. the tank will be fully ready for fish/rays in about a week, it's sitting there calling my name.

but if i get a moto, what would be a nice fit for some tank mates. i would like some movement in the tank as well.

Silver dollars, P-bass, Geos (just keep an eye out for nipping), more rays :naughty:

Some catfish will also go well depending on the size and personality of the ray, some of them are very good hunters and some don't really bother other fish

What size tank are you starting him in? Keep in mind as a first time ray keeper you will be surprised by the amount of bio-load a ray puts on a tank. Test your water often, you really can't test too much and be prepared for a lot of water changes

Also blood worms is not a very good staple diet, I would try to get him eating earthworms, pellets, shrimp, smelt and other more filling foods as soon as you can

starting in a 75gal. since he is pretty small. well move to something much bigger later on . the tank has a filter from a 120g. i forget the name of the it. but its a canister style pump thing lol sorry really really tired.
