oscars are really messy eaters i was thinking of getting a syno to eat all the uneaten food as theyve worked great for me before, i just dont know too much about catfish, what are some other kinds that could do this job well and not be a snack? id rather something different and interesting

clown loaches could b ur answer great fish as im sure u know other suggestion pictus or ornate pimlodus? think thats how u say

Synodontis are cool. If you want something different though that won't compete with the oscar and are really awesome, try a gulper cat. Those things have huge mouths and will eat anything.

Gulpers are awesome, but they don't do real well on picking up small particles of food do they? I can't imagine that they would, but I've never been around them personally so I wouldn't really know.

My syno is the best cleaner of all my cats. Channels do an ok job but would outgrow your tank, Raphaels are good as well and wouldnt outgrow a 70. Another good one to look into (though you dont see them in the tank a whole lot) are Eclipse cats (also seen as Sun Cats)
Mine cleans up pretty well, but they are slow growers so you would have to find a large one to start with to not be Oscar Food.
Pictus could also work, but aren't big enough to keep with Oscars for life, a schoal of 4-line pims will get larger, but they havn't been as good at cleaning as my pictus for some reason.

All in all, I think the syno would be your best bet for this purpose. Their small mouths are great for picking up all those little particles that the Oscars spit out and lose out of their gills

have you tryed not feeding your oscars really messy foods?

Any Syno. really. Raphaels are good little guys as well. I have both and love um.

i feed them hikari gold pellets and they loose 30% or so from their gills. i dont feed them purposely messy foods. i guess i could go with a syno. i just wanted to try something different. would pictus really get eaten by an oscar, tehy are really active

I think Pictus would be fine for a while. They are wicked fast. I have fish with my Oscar that he *could* eat but they are to fast. They are not cool looking (Golden Chinese Algae Eaters) but they help with cleanup in my large tank.
