Well, I've caught catfish fever again. I went to a few of my LFS this past weekend and saw the a few baby red tails (always have to fight that urge), and a rtc-tsn hybrid, which I've never actually seen in person.

Anyways, all this catfish-seeing has got me thinking I need another catfish in my life. I figure I'd like to watch it grow, so it would probably be best suited in my 144 half circle tank with my ATF.

While the gulper is my dream catfish, I realize he's a poor choice as a tankmate for any fish. However, I was thinking of getting a lima shovelnose, or possibly one of the bumblebee catfish that grow larger.

I guess what I'm looking for is thoughts and recommendations.

As always, input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Cole,
I've never had a Lima, so it would be nice to grow out a new fish; however, I can't help but wonder about the Tigrinus as well. Much more money, yes, but it has similar requirements to my ATF: highly oxygenated water and strong current.

Gulper Catfish. or the fish on my avatar lol Ogre catfish if not Gulper haha
If not, Go all out and Exodons

Do show the end results!

Viick you know I'd love to get a gulper, but I'm not going to risk the chance of him enjoying a $200 meal (in the form of my African Tiger Fish). :)

Well, if the Tig is a bad idea, then I suppose I'll start hunting for Limas. What length do Lima's top out at?

Tig would be awesome, but like you said very pricey. Limas would work well more than likely, just make sure you get a small one that wouldn't be able to eat the ATF.

They can top out anywhere from 12-22" depending on whether it's a true sorubim lima or an elongatus. Hard to tell the difference between them at a small size.

like what has already been said, it can get anywhere from 12-24 inches depending on species. If you are in the US then you will most likely get an elongatus shovelnose which will get 12-15 inches max. true limas can get from 20-24 inches max. but be careful not to get one to small that it willget beat up by your atf.

Lima are awesome. They grow very slow. They prefer company, I'd say at least a group of three. 144 is small for many cats, much too small for tig. African shovelnose are interesting and top out around 10inches and also the jaguar cats stay under a foot.
