I'm looking for a something that breeds rapidly, adults too large to be eaten by most upper jaws polys, and not too aggressive. Does such a super fish exist? The goal is to have an in-tank, supplemental supply of food for my polys.

I can't say how easy it is to get convict fry. You literally need a male and female and there u go. The only problem is the fry don't grow too quick. They are pretty slow growers actually.

I've used them before, but the parents are so protective that the polys tend to give up at eating the fry... so i need something that reproduces like cons but is less aggressive. I really want jewels because they are good looking fish but they are just so mean.
Kribensis cichlids are pretty good breeders aswell

Nope. They are very hardy I used them to help cycle my partially cycled tank. It was only like 2 weeks in and they were awesome. I still have about 50 fry from them at 1"+

Those may be a real option. I'm going to try to breed them first, before I put them with my monsters.
