Hi, as seen in my thread below or above im gettin a 8-10" Florida gar.
It is just a growout til it hits 16-17".
The tank is 100g (5ftx20"x20").
I was thinking if this would work in a tank with the florida with out trouble.

1-3x 6" Polypterus Bichir Lapradei
1x Florida Gar 8-10"

I need help finding 1 or 2 fish to fit in with those. Not another gar, not another poly, aros are to price, Lungs make me sick.
I hate Silver Dollars, Pacus grow to fast, RTC and TSN will eat the polys.

So as you see im in trouble. I know about a 4" African Tiger Fish, should i get it in with the gar and the Poly's?
Im only looking for 1-2 fish.;)

the poly's will work fine.

i strongly suggest considering more gar. for one, they like to shoal. furthermore, gars generally do best with other gar. there arent a whole load of great gar tankmates out there. pacus dont do well with gar(ask jordon if you wont take my word for it...) the rtc and tsn will in all likelyhood outgrow the gar and eat it(the gar) too. if you were considering, cichlids dont mix very well with gar either. if you don't want another spotted gar, you might want to consider tropical gars. also, african arowana might be a good choice for a tankmate. availability over there might be an issue though. your best bet all in all would be to get a few more gars.

info from a reliable source; gars hate silvery fast fish. plus at those sizes, the gar's growth will progress rapidly ahead of the atf, and if it doesn't immediately kill/eat it, it eventually will. simply put, the atf combo will not work.

you do know you will have to upgrade the tank right? and most probably sooner, not later.

good luck:)

I agree, getting another gar or two will be your best bet, but in that case you will need a bigger tank sooner then if you just have one gar. Bichirs and arowana seem to be a favorite to mix with gar and seem to work for most people. You'd be surprised at how interesting it is to watch a small group of florida/spotteds interact and it is very calm to wath them float around. It's up to you, but you are a bit limited since you have eliminated pretty much the best tankmates possible. (gar, polys, aros)

I CANT get another gar, the Floridas/Spotteds cost me 120$. Please notice that im in iceland, not to many monsters, i have beed thinking of aros, silvers are the only one i can possibly get. Will a 6" Silver work in there with maybe a 4" ATF?

The ATF won't work. That size aro should be alright with an 8" gar, expecially a Florida/Spotted. Watch them closely, but I've never had aggression issues with my Floridas and Arowana. The only gar of mine that tried to kill my arowana was the tropical.
