I've done a fair bit of googling and actually found a very nice site that listed mammals, birds, and herps that are introduced down here, whether they're known to be breeding, and the counties they've been found in. I'm looking for something similar with fish, or even as simple as a list of fish you've seen/collected down here. Basically I want to set up an outdoor pond and stock it with fish that already occur down here, as I know the climate should be OK for them.

Remember that with some you have to have a permit for and others are just not allowed even if you catch them in the wild (they have to be destroyed).

And any game fish can only be kept with a valid freshwater fishing license & according to size regulations and open season and will have to be killed at the end of the season as they cannot be returned to the wild.

Make sure you have a valid F/W fishing license (you can't believe how stealthy a Game Warden can be :D ) If you have any equipment they can bust you for fishing even if your only trying to catch mosquito fish. Remember your on their turf.

Yep, 2ft plecos too. Between the hurricanes destroying fish farms and the ignorant people that release their fish it's a mess down here.

We have Mayans and Jacks where I am. They are everywhere and very nice colors. But they are too mean when put into aquariums. Don't know what it is about wild caught cichlids, in my case.

Hmm, doesn't look like the exotics get as far north as me, except maybe the plecos and tilapia...looks like I'll have to heat the pond after all if I want cichlids etc. I wasn't planning to collect my own, more checking on which fish to add to the pond if I expect them to live...figured I'd get them from the LFS.

I suppose Texas cichlids might do OK though, and chanchitos...I didn't realize the pbass were intentionally introduced as a gamefish, I thought they were invasives like the other cichlids & tropicals.

CTU2fan - plenty of *big* plecos in the Silver River up here in N Florida.

Spring fed, etc. so its 72 year round, but I think in S Fl. you may be more worried about lots of heat than keeping it warm.

^ In the Silver? Wow, will have to look for them next time I'm out that way. I'm just south of Daytona so it seems most of the fish that are down in Dade wouldn't survive the winter up here. I suppose I could heat it in winter, wouldn't take much to get it to the low 70s especially if I cover it at night.
